Registered Dexter Cattle

Wakarusa Ridge Ranch
Dexter Cattle

Dexter cattle came to the United States from England and Ireland in the early 1900’s. The most noticeable feature of a Dexter is its size; it is one of the smallest cattle breeds. A mature Dexter stands only about half as tall as a full-grown Holstein, and weighs about half as much.

In Ireland, Dexter cattle were often used as "house" cows, because each cow could produce just enough milk and meat for a family household. Dexter cattle are very adaptable, docile, early maturing, and long lived. They are excellent foragers and can be utilized efficiently in conservation grazing programs.

At Wakarusa Ridge Ranch, we raise both polled and horned Dexter cattle. Our breeding program emphasizes good temperament, excellent conformation, and dual-purpose use for meat and milk. All of our cattle are registered with the American Dexter Cattle Association.

Wakarusa Ridge Ranch is located in northern Osage County, approximately 20 miles west of Lawrence, Kansas in the scenic rolling hills of the Osage Questas.
